Zen Modern

Santa Rosa, California

Slight changes of grade combined with layers of hedging and planting facilitate a sense of expansion and contraction as one approaches this Mid-Century modern home. This layering of spaces provides privacy so expansive glazing can remain open day and night. The presence of water washes away street noise and Koi literally greet you at the front door.

The Asian quality transitions to one of Sub-tropical oasis in the backyard, where a refurbished pool and pool house take center stage. A bluestone terrace, ipe deck, concrete fire box, spillway and lush plantings complete the scene. Expanses of concrete were removed and utilized in site walls throughout the project. The repetition of materials and color melds the seemingly disparate styles of front and back into a unified whole.
